Sorry for the post of no calibur, but I had to post it.

What happened to end bosses?

I remember the days when NES was called nintendo, and in those days games had bosses. Now I know what your thinking, but matt, they have bosses in video games, well shut up. I know that, but remember real bosses? Like in megaman, or ninja gaiden? Those were bosses, not like Saren in Mass Effect, and Atlas in Bioshock. They may be the ones at the end of the game, but are far from bosses. Bosses are Goro, Abobo, Red Falcon. There are games nowadays that have legitimate end bosses, but they are becoming few and far between. I'll give you a short list...

4. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence-The best boss is your mom, or sort of your mom. Boss has a name to live up too, and does quite well. She is tough, has tricky attacks and takes a while to defeat and exhausts you as well. Not only is she hard to beat (if you play right) but she plays an intrigual part of the story. No spoilers here, I promise, but I will make here number 4 on the list for it.

3. Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess-Now most Zelda games end with a nice boss battle and dungeon battles to boot, but TP does this better than most of them. Ganondorf and his minions always make for great games, and Ganon/Ganondorf end up being your final battle. Now nintendo understands not to mess with a winning formula (sometimes), but no messing was done here.

2. Gears of War-Throw this game in, I know you have it, and go straight to the fight with RAAM on Insane, tell me that doesn't deserve to be on this list. It has multiple facets throughout the battle, stay in the light, watch his chaingun, watch for the kryll shield to leave, head for troika (depending on how you play). One of the best OMG moments in gaming cinema.

1. Halo 2-Now it's weird that a first person shooter can have a great boss battle, but the battle with brute leader Tarturus, is an unexpected pleasure. Most FPS have some sort of boss but never try to make it fun, usually it's duck and cover, then fire the biggest gun you have at him/her over and over, like in GoW, but this adds the extra OMG factor of his Fist of Rukt combined with his invulnerability. I absolutely love to fight him, especially on legendary, it's a great fight, especially when you start running out of ammo. It's a great story coupled with one amazing boss, that's why I made it number 1.

Please, developers, remember those games that made you want to make them? Remember how boss battles mad you feel? Even if it was impossible to beat, it made the game worth playing. Please believe me, I know what I'm talking about.
